Explorer’s Art (3 – 5 yrs)
Bold Dreams
Come create endearing art that captures the whimsical, inspired by Joan Miro’s The Garden (1925) and Paul Klee’s collotype print The Bridegroom’s Arrival (1933). Using Miro’s iconic biomorphic forms, enigmatic symbols and great labyrinths of colour that reflect his interest in dreams, we will create bold expressive characters and interesting shapes to decorate a one-of-a-kind mobile. We shall then paint and collage a Kleesque relief art of our own fantastical portraiture with kaleidoscopic hues contrasted against black lines and mixed media elements.

Core Art (5 – 10 yrs)
Green Daze
Two American artists’ works will be the springboard for the duet outcomes of Green Daze. With spring awakening all living things, we shall delve deep into the fantastical world of nature and botany. Study the very distinctive and divergent visual languages in Jonas Wood’s series of tropical foliage and Mark Bradford’s Wild Wild West. We shall explore practical renderings of flowers and plants, emphasizing the use of found materials and texture in the first tactile project, transfiguring everyday materials into a hands-on layered assemblage. Then in the second project, utilise blocking and stylisation for a graphical gouache illustration.

Drawing Fundamentals (6 – 8 yrs)
Canned Toons
We will learn about the essential principles to creating a fun and captivating product design! By studying the works of legendary cartoonists such as Aaron Blaise, Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks, participants will learn the ins-and-outs to creating an emotive animal mascot for their fictional brand. Using core typography principles, acrylic paint and markers, they will then fashion a brand-name logo to be applied, along with their mascot, onto a physical object: a soda can!

Ready-Set-Draw (8 yrs+)
Dynamic Composition
Discover the art of drawing objects by applying geometry and careful observation. Compile your best works into a dynamic, digitally-coloured composition inspired by the vivid and engaging pieces of contemporary artist Michael Craig-Martin.
Note: Students may be given an iPad with Procreate or a laptop with Photoshop to complete the digital colouring. Those with their own devices are encouraged to bring them in for the April month of classes.

Comics (8 yrs+)
Mini Zines
Don’t wait to be a published author to start sharing your art and stories with the world. Instead jump into the art of creating your own mini zines! This term, learn about the history of zines and their purpose as a form of self-publishing. Come up with a theme you enjoy such as a zine all about personal experiences, music, the adventures of your own original character, or even foods and recipes! Fill your zine with a collage of comic strips, illustrations, and playful typography about your chosen theme. With the contents and layout complete, photocopy and assemble your zine for easy sharing with friends and family.
