Dedicated tutors are standing by with the tech and expertise to keep your minds engaged.

Workshops range from enhancing language skills, to speech communication techniques, visual arts and mentorship.

For 4-7 yrs AND 8 yrs+

Sat 15, 22, 29 Feb, 7, 14, 21, 28 Mar 2020, 1:30-3:00pm AND/OR 3:00-4:30pm

Fees : For 4-7 yrs+ $450 for one 1.5 hrly workshop OR $850 for two 1.5 hrly workshops

For 8 yrs+ $600 for one 1.5 hrly workshop OR $1,140 for two 1.5 hrly workshops

Join us and learn about building, painting and mixed media appreciation in this visual art drop-in workshop, themed around Surrealist Plants. Explore diverse media in 2D and 3D guided by specialist facilitators, as you stretch your creative minds.

Gather round this ad hoc creative extravaganza and pick and choose your favourite media.

3D Art – (for 4 – 7 yrs AND 8 yrs+)  1:30 – 3:00pm

Design your own 3D model plant using mixed media, abstract shapes and colours. Inspired by the works of Adam Frezza & Terri Chiao your unique organic piece with surrealistic inspiration. 

Collage Art – (for 4 – 7 yrs AND 8 yrs+)  3:00 – 4:30pm

Ideas sprout up when you take a step into the woods. Create a surrealist flowerbed of layered textures, with harmonic and contrasting colours, decorated with print materials.

Oil Painting – (for 8 yrs+ only) 1:30 – 3:00pm

Introductory class to oil painting when you will use organic lines and vibrant colours of plants as basis to apply oil painting techniques. Emphasis on mixing and blending colours, and creating some imaginative and whacky flora.

Clay Relief – (for 8 yrs+ only)  3:00 – 4:30pm

Get stuck into our clay sculpting workshop, where we’ll mould a low relief inspired by Egyptian artefacts – fused with human and animal features (chimera); using subtractive and additive technique. We’ll continually score, model and carve to awaken a majestic fabulous clay memento.

We’re Open For Business!  

For those of you who missed the update on our homepage, workshops, in small group sizes, we are still running and business hours have not been affected.

However please note that in view of the recent Novel Coronavirus, those who attend workshops are advised to:

  • Temperature check at home prior to arrival at CMW
  • Bring face masks which must be worn at all times
  • If your child is unwell, please contact our staff and we will arrange a makeup date before term ends for any workshops missed.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream Ticket Sales

Tickets were originally planned to go on sale February 7th, however due to the current situation in Hong Kong, the date for ticket sales has not yet been confirmed.

Core Art Yearly Focus – Fine Art and Design

Compose compelling original artwork and expand your skills in design. From Japanese contemporary art to early 20th century Russian Avant Garde, you will discover how the visual language of fashion, product, graphic design and modern architecture can be used for boosting sustainability awareness, advertising campaigns and commercial messaging.

Explorer’s Art   (3 – 4.5 yrs)

Moving with the Movements

Explorers get ready! We’re about to take a whirlwind trip into abstract surrealism. Compile your very own hardback book of masterpieces, demonstrating the unique contemporary expressions of established artists, including Mark Rothko’s multiforms, Raymond Saá’s painted collages, and Damien Hirst’s visual candy painting. From acrylics to ink, oil pastels and patterns, this workshop is jam-packed with artistic development, art history and adventures galore.

I Think I’m Turning Bauhaus…

Looking at geometric, primitive and abstract art and design, you will be influenced to create a 3D architectural piece with an assemblage of coloured painted wood. Study visual text in graphic design and merge a collage of human figures, to form a dynamic outcome.  The result will bring together light, and motion in a contemporary Bauhaus twist, all informed by Bauhaus masters like Walter Gropius and Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.

 

Ready-Set-Draw Yearly Focus – The Art of Illustration

Explore the roles of illustration in areas of storytelling, persuasion and commentary over a myriad of themes and subjects. This upcoming year focuses on in-depth exploration of illustration and practical techniques such as realism through lighting, texture, perspective and tone. Expand your expertness on fabric and wood and follow your story over themes and subjects.

Ready-Set-Draw   (8 yrs+)

Conceptual Illustration

Venture out into the wild and learn the technical aspects of illustrating textured animals and whimsical landscapes. Adopting the principles of graphic design, you will create a conceptual water-coloured illustration. Follow the contours of a wild animal to outline a landscaped vista in its natural habitat.

Tactile Textile   (10 yrs+)

Layering and Gathering

Create contrasting bold volumes and rhythms, or even a soft sculpture. In this workshop you will be working towards a monochrome twofold outcome, layering and gathering textile techniques to create a harmonious body of work.

 

Sculpture Culture   (Pottery-Ceramics 8 yrs+)

Fundamentals Master Class

Learn to build three-dimensionally and excel in creation that takes form in art ware, figurines, sculpture, decorative and applied art objects. Acquire fundamental skills from pinching, coiling,  slab to wheel-throwing, we shall experiment with new materials whilst utilizing techniques of slip casting, clay modeling, and surface texturing. 

The Digital:Hub – Animation, DSLR & Filmmaking   (8 yrs+, 10 yrs+)

Filmmaking   (10 yrs+)

Create a Commercial

Invent your own product and create a commercial to show it off. Write the script, film the shots and edit on Premiere Pro. What will your product be? A talking toy? A superhero drink? Learn to deliver a powerful narrative with professional guidance in camera work, props and set design. Wrap up your video with an engaging voice over and you’ll have a project that sells, sells, sells!

DSLR – Digital Photography   (10 yrs+)

Product Photography

Using diverse techniques in product photography, you will create a photographic A4 poster to market a range of products. Adopt compelling compositions, and employ ‘cheating’ techniques and action shots, all captured within a studio lighting setup.

Stop Motion Animation   (8 yrs+)

Compile still photography to create computer animation. Narrative and story board creation.

Sketchbook Studies / Painting   (10 yrs+)

Flash The Light on Fabric

Here’s your chance to interpret your surrealist expression in oils! Like clouds morphing in the boundless sky, we can tell stories that personify the natural twists and folds of textile. Sculptural forms of voluminous fabric, organic folds and pleats have the potential to create endless possibilities. Embrace dramatic abstract shapes in your very own painting!

Mentor Studio   (13 yrs+)

For art enthusiasts who are considering Art for GCSE, A-Levels, IGCSE or IB; or who simply enjoy being stretched artistically. Mentor Studio is open to any participants who want to strengthen their skill repertoire, build on their collection of portfolio-worthy artworks, or explore challenging themes through open-end self-enquiry guided closely by a mentor. Acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of art-form, techniques and styles used as we guide you through various artistic decision and pathways to artistic achievement.

Don’t miss this fantastic opportunity to work alongside Frederique Decombe in her series of Mentor programmes. Get professional guidance from her team of practicing artists. Subjects range from painting to illustration, sculpture and textile, filmmaking and photography, and graphic art.

Mentor Studio (13 yrs +)

Work directly with our Mentors to successfully conceptualise, evaluate and execute personalised outcomes. Reinforce your course work and personal projects, and let out experts guide you from conceptualisation to a documented sketchbook or journal.

  • With a focus on IGCSE, GCSE, IB, A-Level, AP Level, and school and university applications.
  • Guidance and instruction on a range of techniques including 2D, 3D, and new media.
  • Broaden your knowledge of art history and artistic concepts.
  • From initial concept to the production of a final portfolio.

Portfolio Building (13 yrs +)

Whether you’re getting ready to apply to art school or an interview, our Mentors will help you fulfil specific portfolio requirements.

  • Our Mentors have extensive knowledge in building a body of work for universities and art colleges.
  • Personal coaching and development to present your collection of work in an engaging and professional way.
