Join us for an engaging Easter of holiday workshops where we will celebrate not just the classic bunny rabbit, but also the colourful butterflies and beetles that fill the springtime parks! Young children aged 4-6 years will craft a mini bowling pin set and perform a song from the Peter Rabbit movie. For those aged 7-10 years there are options to combine a butterfly canvas, a naturalist flora and fauna illustration, or to learn a song from The Secret Garden musical. Older children aged 10+ can illustrate their own fantasy beetle in Living Jewel. The Ceramic department will also host workshops in sculpting a whimsical pet chime for 8+.

Paying homage to one of Easter’s most iconic folkloric figures – the bunny. Come create a mini set of colourful and friendly bunny bowling pins from papier-mache. Paint, stick, and decorate your bunny pins with mixed media materials. When you’re done, you may grab a ball and knock ‘em down to score the perfect bowling strike!

Hop on down to Colour My World for a magical adventure! This Easter, let your little ones dive into the enchanting world of Peter Rabbit in our drama workshop! Join us for a whimsical journey filled with fun, friendship, and creativity. Together, we will explore the joys of storytelling through a delightful short script and an energetic dance. Every moment is sure to be filled with laughter and inspiration!

Create a circular artwork of kaleidoscopic butterflies inspired by Frances Hodgson Burnett’s classic children’s novel The Secret Garden and Damien Hirst’s Butterflies series. Combine reductive print-making with stenciling and papercraft to complete your lively artwork. This intricate yet vibrant canvas will remind you of a springtime walk through a butterfly-filled garden.

Spring is upon us, and with it, the wonderful sights and sounds of nature blossoming all around. Join us as we explore themes of nature and friendship along with the classic tale of “The Secret Garden”. You will be learning a short script and perfecting your acting skills as well as taking on vocal training and singing a song from the original Broadway musical!

Naturalistic Illustration

Embrace the outdoors with your sketching pencil and watercolour paints in hand. Replicate 17th Century German botanical artist Maria Sybilla Merian’s combination of muted and intense colours. We shall follow this pioneering artist of flora and fauna, and compose our own pieces from a combination of photographic and physical references. Weather-permitting, we shall sketch outdoors for part of a lesson.

This Easter, come craft a ceramic wind chime that is functional and decorative. Learn to coil as you consider its visual and acoustic appeal. Think about various shapes, sizes, and surface textures to create an aesthetically pleasing arrangement with enchanting figurine designs while maximizing the potentials for beautiful harmonious tones. Balance between durable and well-sounding chimes with optimal clay thickness and structural durability. Then underglaze it to highlight the features of your animals. Enjoy the chime swinging in the spring air!

Bridge the gap between science and fantasy with concept art for an out-of-this-world beetle. Using a range of references, from scientific illustration to video game creature designs, you’ll learn how to combine real-life insect anatomy with imaginative features. Whether you design a fanged monster or a jeweled beauty, you’ll bring it to life in the mind of the viewer with an annotated character sheet and a painted illustration, in your choice of traditional media or digital art.

(Note: Participants opting for digital art will need to bring a device with Procreate or Photoshop installed.)
