ENROL NOW: Term starts from 1 Sep!

Explorer’s Art   (3 – 5 yrs)

Pop Toys

What can spark a child’s imagination better than toys!? Our little Explorers will get their first introduction to the design process, from drawing their initial concepts right through to making their own toys! Maybe one day they’ll invent the next Labubu! Dream up a whole bunch of fun collectable characters. We’ll first design, illustrate, and display our best character trading cards. Then we’ll take our character designs into production with a hilarious mix and match wooden block set!

Core Art   (5 – 10 yrs)

Hockney’s Landscapes

This upcoming year in Core Art we shall embark on a new outlook, where active engagement with a singular artist and their body of work kick-starts a conversation with our budding artists every term.

This Autumn term, we’ll be looking at David Hockney’s vivid natural landscapes, particularly Winter Timber (2009) and A Bigger Picture (2012). Inspired by his multiple screens approach, the first project puts a collaborative spin on depicting landscapes with miniature tin dioramas fashioned from paint, to stones, to dried lichen to build layers of 3D texture. We shall then record our peers’ works to render one large gridded landscape. Then, we’ll reconnect with the local landscape with acrylic paintings of the Wong Chuk Hang area, using a mixture of observational drawing and expressive colour to create a piece that feels larger than life!

Drawing Fundamentals   (6 – 8 yrs)

Birds of Colour

Nearly any piece of art begins with a drawing, whether it’s while coming up with ideas or making the base layer to a masterful painting! To start out this year of learning drawing as a crucial base-skill, we’ll be creating a watercolour pencil artwork inspired by 18th century artist, John James Audubon. Like Audubon, we’ll use a large variety of colours to make detailed depictions of birds in their natural (or un-natural) habitats!

Ready-Set-Draw   (8 yrs+)

Emphasis and Contrast

In this first term of Ready-Set-Draw, we’re starting out our journey through the 7 Principles of Art by learning about Emphasis and Contrast. We’ll look at how masters of both old and new have used these principles to their advantage, including master painter, Caravaggio, expert engraver, Gustave Dore, and comic book legend, Frank Miller. With one accent colour and the darkest ink available, participants will use pens and brushes to play with negative space in order to create a Miller-esque artwork that would grab the attention of just about anyone!

Comics   (8 yrs+)

The Art of Pacing

Unlock the art of comic storytelling as we hone our skills in paneling and dynamic narrative techniques. Begin your journey by crafting a simple four-panel story, then refine and expand it into six-panels. Through these iterative revisions, you’ll learn to control the rhythm of your narrative, experimenting with how each panel contributes to the pacing, timing, and overall flow of your story. In the final phase, transform your work into a compelling one-page comic with nine panels, showcasing your newfound skills.

Pixelated

(Digital Arts 10 yrs+)

Digital Toy Shop

The toys and collectables market is booming and it seems like there’s a new craze every month, but what will the next craze be? Take cues from a range of retro and modern sources to come up with your own immersive miniature playset designed in your choice of Photoshop or Procreate. Get to grips with spatial thinking to solve problems in the set’s construction and use your software’s technical drawing tools to illustrate diagrams that show its functions. Clever use of layers and duplicates will allow you to depict moving parts and removable pieces. Once you’re confident it’s a working design, pitch your idea with two convincing pieces of concept art, showing the interior and exterior of your set.

Ceramic Fanatics

(Pottery-Ceramics 10 yrs+)

It’s Game Time!

Start off a new term in Ceramics with a grand slam! Design and slab-build your own sports court plate with a miniature net or other sporty elements. Then complete the set as you get to grips with foundational pinching techniques to craft a ball-shaped cup with lid. Add a splash of colour with an underglaze and it’s game, set, match!

Sculpture Culture

(Mixed-media 3D Design 10 yrs+)

Dynamic Wire

Join us this term to explore gesture and movement with wire! Taking inspiration from Celia Smith, an artist renowned for her wire sculptures of birds in flight, you’ll shape dynamic poses in your own 3D sculpture that almost looks like a 2D sketch. By bending and manipulating wire, we’ll learn to capture poses to create a sculpture that brings a sequence of movements to life. Then, explore the contours of faces to create a sculptural self-portrait to convey personality and expression with wire. Discover that sculpture can be more than just static forms and give your pieces a sense of energy and movement.

Sketchbook Studies & Painting   (10 yrs+)

Cinematic Feelings

Taking inspiration from renowned Beijing-based artist Li Songsong’s techniques and subjects, we shall capture the feelings of two characters in a cinematic setting. Learn to paint with a palette knife while studying anatomy and figure drawing from photographic references reminiscent of a movie. Create an abstracted background, and paint figures over it. Portray the relationship of two vivid characters, taking reference from film stills.

Mentor Studio   (13 yrs+)

For art enthusiasts who are considering Art for GCSE, A-Levels, IGCSE or IB; or who simply enjoy being stretched artistically. Mentor Studio is open to any participants who want to strengthen their skill repertoire, build on their collection of portfolio-worthy artworks, or explore challenging themes through open-end self-enquiry guided closely by a mentor. Acquire in-depth knowledge and understanding of art-form, techniques and styles used as we guide you through various artistic decision and pathways to artistic achievement.
