Welcome Springtime with our creative workshops that celebrate the seasonal explosion of plant life! With both visual and performing arts, there are workshops for children of all ages. Try stamping & stenciling, stitching & painting, singing & acting, or even drawing with light in the air! There’s something new to try for everyone!

Cultivated Collage

IN VISUAL ART…

Celebrate the nouveau with the fresh colours and natural beauty of plant life. We will take our best ideas for new plant designs and nurture them into a multi-media collage garden, each with a guided sense of composition. We will learn techniques such as relief stamping patterns and the use of stencilling to create bold surface designs.

IN DRAMA…

Banish that icy chill and summon the Springtime in our dramatic workshops. We shall have a trio of tribal movement and magic based workshops especially designed for this age group.

IN VISUAL ART…

Taking inspiration from Yayoi Kusama, we will use imaginative images and fluctuating rhythms to create an infinity polka-dot acrylic painting. Experimenting with ellipses, dots, patterns, daubed lines and bright colours, you will design, compose and cut; drawing and pasting your favourite fruit or vegetable onto a painting in your own style. Light or dark, warm or cool, will your colours compliment or contrast?

IN DRAMA…

Join us as we attempt to summon the spirit of Springtime by devising a group fable, with elements of song and rhythm, in a kid-centric concoction of constructive play.

Following the guiding principles of Art Nouveau, we will paint a delicate floral pattern on canvas, before adding the surprising element of embroidery to produce a tactile and visual effect. Beginning with a close stylistic study of the period’s drawing, we’ll then experiment with colour schemes and colour mixing before applying acrylic to canvas. Our dried canvas will then be embellished with complementary stitch work, weather enhancing lines, increasing shades, or by building on texture.

Discover the art of Light Painting. Use a camera and a moving light source to “paint” colours in the air! Experiment with objects, life models, spaces, and different sources of versatile lights inspired by Patrick Rochon and Darren Pearson. Learn how to set up your camera for long exposure mode, compose the shot, edit your photos, and compile an electrifying series of original photographs that tell a gleaming story.

Come create a beautiful set of Easter eggs with papier mâché, magic glue and colourful inks. Your little eggs will nest in a paper eggshell decorated and detailed, using paint pens for a graphical effect, whilst narrating the story of your favourite animal friends!

IN DRAMA…

Spring has bounced around once again, and we are feeling very poetic! Join us this spring and experience Easter by showing off your “eggcellent” performance skills. We will explore different Spring-themed poems, create an original Easter story and act it out, accompanied with singing and dancing. Let’s hop to it!

Participants will create a figurative painting inspired by British painter and writer, Maeve Gilmore whose work is highly autobiographical and emphasises family life. What do you think makes up your family? Your parents, your siblings, your pets, your home? Share a slice of your life with the world.

IN DRAMA…

Spring is a time of voice, movement and music. Join us this Easter as we bring poems to life in three theatrical forms. Begin with drama to act out the true meaning hidden in every line. Then turn the poem into a set of interpretive movements and raise it with our voices, bringing new vitality and projection.

Pablo Picasso is most famous for his 2D paintings on canvas, but he’s also known for his 3D work in ceramics. Explore the unique challenges of working on both 2D and 3D surfaces by creating a design depicting your Springtime wish and applying it to a model egg. Then, observe the distorting effects of perspective by rendering the design back into a flat painting. Spring is a time for optimism and new starts, so express your wishfulness in this dual challenge workshop.

Bring your Wacky Rabbit from your imagination into reality. Construct a 3D, stylized rabbit of your own design. Develop your spatial awareness and colour matching sensibilities. Use a combination of patterned and textured textiles as well as acrylic paint to decorate your rabbit’s surface. Surprise yourself with the final outcome!

IN DRAMA…

Display your best acting skills through a dramatic retelling of The Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter. Peter Rabbit and his siblings go to the forest to pick some delicious gooseberries, only to end up being chased by Mr Fox! Through pantomime, vocal animation, and characterization, act out the adventure of Peter Rabbit and co.

Join this character design workshop for a vintage illustration piece with a touch of period drama as we travel back in costume history. Take inspiration from archival photographs of people dressing up in the 1940s and 1950s, as well as famous clothed bunnies like Peter Rabbit. Use watercolour and linework to illustrate your animal character dressed up in stylized period clothing.

IN DRAMA…

Join Alice, the White Rabbit, and the Mad Hatter for an extraordinary tea party. You will travel down the rabbit hole in an abridged, dramatized retelling of Alice In Wonderland. Practice your narration skills and work on your expressive action abilities in this acting workshop.

Celebrate the season of harvest and new life with a Paul Cezanne-inspired still-life. Learn the techniques that one of the most influential post-impressionists implemented in his works.

Facilitator’s Profile : Originally from Belgium, Bernard Henin has a BA Sc degree of Applied Science (Biotechnology). After an international career serving science and internet-based companies in UK, he followed his passion and became a writer and an English teacher. Bernard now specialises in communication, having written STEM magazines aimed at children as well as non-fiction books in space science. Henin has hosted public speaking workshops at international schools and events throughout Hong Kong and UK. He is the project leader of CMW Speak Aloud & Creative Writing programmes.
