WORLDS UNSEEN
One of the many roles of an artist is to feel and to portray things that are often overlooked or cannot be seen with one’s eyes. We call you to turn your attention to Worlds Unseen, from the macro world of microbes to parallel universes to feelings and emotions.

Explorer’s Art (3 – 5 yrs)
Art Chef
Feeling hungry? Fancy a hearty burger, or maybe something lighter like Sushi? How about a giant Taco?! Our Explorers will become master chefs, creating a series of three mixed-media food sculptures of various scales. Experimenting with different uses of materials and studying their particular qualities and textures, our Explorers will imitate food through art.
Core Art (5 – 10 yrs)
Worlds Unseen
Welcome to Worlds Unseen, an adventure into the microscopic. Our Core Artists will draw inspiration from macro imagery of microbes and viruses to produce highly idiosyncratic creative line works. They will be creating three artworks, starting with a fine line ‘zentangle’ and a petri-dish experiment with colour. Then, they will create a mixed-media sculpture incorporating decorative elements of illustration.
Drawing Fundamentals (6 – 8 yrs)
Me, Myself & I – Layered Portraiture
Play with layers and illusion while learning to draw believable faces. Break down facial proportions through drawing exercises and constructive sketches. Portray faces and features from different angles, and create a proportional inked portrait. Produce two portraits on one paper, put on your red-and-blue glasses, and close one eye to watch the other portrait disappear!
Ready-Set-Draw (8 yrs+)
Comedic Comics
Channel your inner comic! Four-panel joke comics have a long history across many cultures, and today they are more widespread and readily appreciated than ever through the internet and social media. Study a range of influences from American newspaper strips, Japanese 4-koma, and modern online comics. Design amusing characters, render them in black ink, and experiment with the interplay between text and image to find the perfect comedic timing.
Comics (8 yrs+)
Double-Spread
Immerse your audience in the universe of your making. Take inspiration from superhero comic legend Jack Kirby, who is widely regarded as one of the medium’s major innovators. Challenge yourself to create a dynamic, immersive, and visually engaging glimpse into your story through a full comic spread which spans two pages. Improve your paneling, pacing, and structure. Our long-term students will be taking the characters and universes they’ve created in previous terms and expanding on them throughout the project.
