Chinese New Year 2025 Holiday Workshop
Welcome in the year of the wise, agile Wood Snake with the Arts. Celebrate the spirit of the Lunar New Year with inspiring Spring and Zodiac-themed workshops. In Drama, our 4-6 year olds and 7-10s will get to explore physical acting skills and emotive body language. The youngest ones will craft a Peach Blossom Tree, and the older ones will create a Matisse-inspired scroll. This time around, kids (and adults!) aged 10+ are welcome to join a variety of workshops, from animal and human illustration to Ceramic Underglaze Transfer to the ancient art of Chinese Paper Cutting.

IN VISUAL ART… (Mixed Media, 3D)
Peach blossoms and Spring! What will your Chinese New Year bring? Come and create a sinuous abstract Cherry tree that is blossoming all year round! In this project, inspired by Adam Frezza & Terri Chiao, we will explore using silver, red and black in a celebration of the festive colours of Chinese New Year. We will also explore symbols and patterns associated with wealth and prosperity to decorate our tree!
IN DRAMA… (Dramatic Movement)
Capture the essence of traditional Lunar New Year symbols through movement. Focus on developing a good foundation for dramatic movement to show a range of energies in your performance. From flying lanterns, to crackling sounds of the fireworks and the slithers of a snake. We will explore mimicking all these through the art of movement and the feeling they hold for us.
Floral Scrolls
VISUAL ART & DRAMA for 7 – 10 yrs
Pick Your Week:
Mon & Tue, 27 & 28 Jan ($1,750)
Mon – Wed, 3 – 5 Feb ($2,550)
10:00 am – 12:45 pm daily
IN VISUAL ART… (Cut-outs, Scroll Painting)
Plum blossom! Clementines! Daffodils! Design your very own scroll inspired by the vibrant cut-outs of Henri Matisse! Deploying unorthodox implements — white paper and gouache — Matisse cut layered structures of colours and complexity into a world of plants, animals, figures, and shapes. We will design a beautiful scroll featuring floral patterns made from collaging bright colours, transforming the simplicity of paint and paper through vine and petal forms. Design your way into the new year!
IN DRAMA… (Movement, Expression, Storytelling)
Through movement, expression and storytelling, we will explore the traditions of the Chinese New Year and celebrate the year of the Snake! Elevate your physical acting skills with emotive body language to tell a holiday-inspired short story incorporating the iconic fireworks, lantern, and snake.
